Carbonfund.org signs on with NEXT Road Trip Rally to Offset Carbon Impact of event.

So, what is going on here?

Just what it sounds like.  An organized effort to bring travel enthusiasts together to participate in one of the best great American past times, the road trip.  Whether you were packed into the backseat on a family getaway, or had a life changing experience with your college friends riding from coast to coast, all of us have had some experience on the road. This event has been planned to follow the basic structure that most experienced rally drivers refer to as a "Time-Speed-Distance" Rally

Obviously we have loosened up the ruleset a little bit, so seasoned rally drivers might not be quite as challenged. But for those of you who think you know how to navigate, and want to spend some time on the road with a bunch of fun people, this is the perfect challenge for you!

For more info about this type of rally, check out TSDRoadRally.com, they have a ton of news and posts along with links to equipment that every driving enthusiast can appreciate

Since we all know the pros and cons of travel, we're organizing this trip so you don't have to deal with any of the downside.  Just pack a bag, and hit the road.  Oh, and compete to win up to $25,000*...

What will the route be?

Our crew have sought out and meticulously traversed a carefully charted route.  The specific route we have designed won't be released to the public, but will be revealed to each team on each morning of driving which will lead from one checkpoint to the next and ultimately, to the finish line. The real challenge is the balance of efficiently navigating the route, while attempting to arrive at the next checkpoint with the least variance from the time your team calculates based on the average speed we will provide you.

The average speed is computed from the distance traveled daily and the posted speed limit of the actual route. The average does account for a couple stops, time to take some pictures if you want. Don't get too sidetracked though, teams will be penalized based on their variance from the target time, if you get to the checkpoint too soon, or too late. There might be a few surprises en route that might change your plans a bit...but every team will be presented with the same challenges.

At every nightly checkpoint we will be staying at a hotel within the Hilton Family, (except in Bar Harbor, there aren't any there!). For Details about this line of amazing accommodations please visit their website at HiltonFamily.com

Will this be fun even if I don't win the huge cash prize?

Of course!  Each day of driving will be concluded with a party hosted by N.E.X.T.  We'll have live music, shows and food provided by the best restaurants along the way.  There will be surprise guests and other activities, sure to pique the interest of even the most road-hardened traveler.  We may may have a line up of new exciting bands, or a slew of hilarious comedians, but then we may just have 8 mimes juggling torches on horseback with archers and professional wrestlers competing in a caber toss over their heads.  Leave the planning up to us, we'll make it a memorable experience.

OK, hold on.  How much is this going to cost me?

Right now the entry fee is set at $2500USD.  This fee covers you and one other driver for the full duration of the trip.  You get 5 nights at hotels we will be setting as checkpoints along our journey, breakfast and dinner each day of travel, all the entertainment we can pack into the nights we will be together, and entry into the competition to win the Grand Prize of up to $25,000.

I live pretty far away, how will I make it the starting line on time?

There is a very nice Marriot hotel within 15 minutes of where we will be launching from, simply get in touch with us, and we'll set you up with a great discount rate!

What if I don't want to put the miles on my car?

AVIS has generously provided us with a discount for the whole week of the event, so you can just rent a car for an amazingly good price, and kick that around all week! Might not be as much to show off, but who cares? Click here to get your reservation!

What about all those fumes my junker spews?

We will be purchasing CarbonCredits for every team that participates in this event.  We want to be as eco-conscious as we can on our trip, so we will be donating to offset the environmental footprint each vehicle on our trip will leave.  Click Here for more info, or go directly to the www.carbonfund.org website.

What if I don't like things that are fun?

We understand some of you may simply want to relax after a long day of driving. We've got you covered.  As soon as you arrive at our evening destinations, you'll be able to check into the hotel rooms that have been booked for you.  Then you can either participate in the activities we have planned, or kick back with a drink and watch the sunset.

Who can participate in this awesome adventure?

Anybody ages 21 and up with a valid motor vehicle license from their state of residence.  The entry fee will pay for only two participants, there will be an additional fee for anyone else you want to bring.

I want to bring everyone I know, but they can't fit in my Dodge Colt hatchback.

No problem, along with support vehicles that will be available to assist in the unfortunate case of a flat tire or other mechanical problem, we will be providing transportation for all luggage you wont be wanting to carry with you on the road.  We will deliver any excess you want (within reason) directly to the hotel where you will be staying at the end of each days drive.  That should leave plenty of room for all your friends and family.

What kind of vehicle do I need?

That is up to you, as long as it is legally registered and insured by one of the drivers on the team.  You can bring an RV, motorcycle, car, truck, jet ski, anything at all.  Whatever you think will be comfortable for 5 days of driving (we do NOT recommend a jet ski, we started testing that last February and the jet ski has yet to make it out of New Jersey).

Is this a race?

NO.  Think of it more like a test of endurance, and of your ability to read a map. With parties, good food, and great entertainment.  And a huge cash prize for the winner.

I have Frontotemporal Dementia, how will I remember this trip once it is over?

Since we know conditions like this are no laughing matter, we will have multiple camera crews and photographers stationed over the length of our journey to chronicle as much as possible of this event.  Content will be available online as the trip unfolds, so you can tell your loved ones to check out our progress.  When everything is over and the winners have been decided, anyone who participated will have the option to buy prints or copies of any content they want from the trip.
